The dbt Analytics Engineering Certification validates your ability to use dbt in production analytics workflows. This is not a memorization exam : it tests whether you can reason through realistic project situations such as building clean model DAGs, choosing the right materialization, testing data assumptions, debugging pipeline failures, and applying governance features. The exam is scenario-heavy: a typical question presents a project problem and asks for the dbt-native fix. The best answer usually improves lineage, repeatability, maintainability, and production safety without over-engineering. You need SQL proficiency and practical dbt experience. Think like a production analytics engineer: prefer dbt abstractions over warehouse shortcuts, preserve the DAG, choose the simplest materialization, and debug from dbt outward.
